Cast Aluminum Furniture Glossary

Aluminum is a silver-white soft flexible light trivalent metallic element that has good electrical and thermal conductivity, high reflectivity, and resistance to oxidation and is the most abundant metal in the earth's crust.

Casting is a process by which a material while in its liquid state is poured into a mold and allowed to solidify into a specific shape.

Corrosion is a chemical action that weakens or gradually destroys a metal. Most structural alloys corrode simply from exposure to moisture in the air. However, the process can be strongly affected by exposure to certain substances. Corrosion can be concentrated nearby to form a pit or crack, or it can expand across a wide area to create deterioration.

Oxidation is the interaction between oxygen molecules and metal. The metal itself is not weakened by oxidation, yet the surface develops a shiny surface after years of exposure to air and water.
